The Engineering Technology Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette proudly celebrated a major achievement as its student competition team participated in the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) National Construction Management Competition (CMC) in Las Vegas, Nevada in January 2025. This milestone marked the department’s first appearance at the prestigious national event since launching its ABC National Student Chapter, affiliated with the ABC Pelican Chapter of Louisiana.

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national construction industry trade association representing more than 23,000 members. Built on the merit shop philosophy, ABC supports its members in developing skilled professionals, securing contracts, and delivering work safely, ethically, and profitably—enhancing the communities they serve.

The student team from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette earned its place in the competition after submitting an Intent to Compete and preparing extensively to face off against top construction management programs from across the nation. The CMC challenges teams to operate as a mock general contracting firm, tackling a complex construction project scenario. Students are judged on their performance in project management, estimating, scheduling, safety, quality control, and a final presentation before a panel of industry professionals.
