TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

Statement of My Teaching Philosophy

I have developed and changed my teaching philosophy several times over the last nine years of my teaching experience. As I accumulate my teaching experience year after year, or even semester after semester, I find myself in need to update and develop my teaching philosophy. It does not mean that I keep changing my beliefs, but changing the implementation of these beliefs. Basically, I belief that teaching is a show business and I, as a teacher, can get an immediate feedback from students, or audience, and use this kind of communication, or evaluation, to develop the teaching methodology. From my personal point of view there’s no such an example of perfect teacher every one can follow, so everyone should have his own teaching philosophy. Specifically, my teaching philosophy is based on three main concepts.
First of all, I follow the concept that “students do not care how much I know until they know how much I care”. I really care, not just show that I care, about my students and their learning and this is greatly appreciated by them. Second concept I believe in is that “students learn better if they are comfortable with their teacher” so I give students the impression that having fun while they are learning is acceptable. So they can enjoy my class time with relaxation and without any tension. Third concept, “if they like it they will learn it” and this is my role, or really my challenge, to find the way to make the subject favorable for them.
Finally, I keep a nice friendly relation with my students but on the other hand I keep the boundary between me, as a teacher, and them with the capability to stop any one from crossing that boundary. Based on the friendly relationship and the previous three concepts, I create a healthy learning environment in my class to help students understand the knowledge coming out of the class without leaving anyone struggling behind.
